Pekiti Tirsia Kali

Instructor – Anthony J. Pellicano

What drives a person to want to either hit someone with a stick, or enjoy allowing some one to hit him with a stick? What would possess a person to practice cutting another person with a knife, or having somebody practice using a blade on him?
Well, asking Agalon Anthony J. Pellicano this question, with a bit of a chuckle, and a smile, he will tell you this: “ Like my instructors Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje jr., and Tuhon Rommel Tortal, have always told me, Pekiti Tirsia Kali is the art of the thought provoking process! In Pekiti Tirsia, we don’t have blackbelts, we have black and blue marks due to the sticks! We don’t have red belts, we have red stripes that comes from the knife”.
Anthony gets a kick out of that because he came from traditional, and structured martial arts with over 30 years of training in arts like: Tang Soo Do, Hap Ki Do, Tae Kwon Do and others. To Anthony, it brings a new and fresh approach to his martial arts training, it is a new way to look at things.
When asked why Anthony is so zealous about propagating the Filipino Martial Arts, specifically Pekiti Tirsia Kali this is what you hear, “Faith plays a large part in my training, it has helped me and motivated me to excel. I love having come from traditional martial arts! I had to go through many, many years of stretching, kicking, punching, blocking, and forms! For what? A certain belt or a certain degree? Just to have a certain title? I needed to go through all of that so that I could be prepared for what the Filipino martial arts had for me. If I really think about it, and if I was totally honest with myself, at the end of the day, why do I train? Answer: I train simply for the “ART and SCIENCE” of combat, and the “STRATEGY” of survival”!
“Training in PTK under my instructors: Leo T. Gaje jr., and Tuhon Rommel Tortal, has taught me just that. As well as prior military, and martial training, PTK has taught me that combat is everything but structured! It is in a word, CHAOS! PTK has taught me to think outside of the box”.
“Pekiti Tirsia is also a combat system that neither recognizes gender, sex, nor age! In respect it is a martial art that allows you to get better as you get older. We often look at the stick as a cane! Pekiti Tirsia is also about understanding individual fears and limitations, and handling them appropriately and with courage”.
Anthony J. Pellicano has worked with groups and individuals within the U.S. Government, Military, Law Enforcement, and private sectors. Anthony has shared his skill set and training with other fellow martial arts groups as well. Anthony continues to influence our martial culture through the Martial Arts of the Philippines, at Vanguard Gym in Manassas, VA.
