Fitness
Overall Fitness for a lifetime, Exercise, and Weight Control – less boring than running on a treadmill or lifting weights, many find the different regimens and varied techniques of Mixed Martial Arts more stimulating and challenging than standard weightlifting and cardio classes. They find the functional movements of CrossFit and the martial arts classes help them stay prepared for everyday physical demands, and fight off the ravages of aging. While many enjoy the improved health that their weight loss brings them, others find the workouts help them build lean muscle mass and functional strength and flexibility. Cardiovascular health, strength, power, flexibility, coordination, stamina, balance, fat-loss, healthy living habits, better quality sleep and less sleeplessness are just a few of the benefits available to people who apply these disciplines to their lives.
As we get older, all of our physical skills deteriorate. In order to slow that degradation, we must “use it or lose it”, as the old cliché states. Even if we are in a long running fitness regime, that regime will generally encompass only our comfort zone. You cannot learn or progress in a comfort zone, we must be challenged to make any progress or mitigate the ravages of Father Time. Vanguard Gym has exceptional programs and facilities for addressing the needs of the aging athlete. Coach Doug’s extensive and expert knowledge, coupled with his outstanding instructional abilities in all phases of fitness and martial arts is the best place I’ve found to engage and challenge every aspect of my conditioning. Training with younger and like-minded people brings out the best possible results for everyone. Vanguard Gym and Coach Doug offer an incomparable opportunity to get the most out of your fitness and/or martial arts programs.
When I moved to this area in May of this year, I visited numerous gyms in the area to see what best suited my needs. I paid numerous fees and dealt with all sorts of personnel from each gym before I found Vanguard. From the first day I could tell it wasn’t any typical gym. It didn’t pride itself on just the newest state of the art equipment, “luxurious” facilities or “highly” trained specialist available to personally “train” me. It is a gym dedicated to helping people pursue a healthy life through actively engaging in a healthy lifestyle. Right from the beginning the actual owner, not some sales rep, took the time to assist me and ask what I was trying to achieve. After our discussion he showed me the facilities, and asked if I would be interested in trying a few of the various classes. I knew after the first day of Cross-Fit this gym could give me the challenges I was seeking. Before I hadn’t been interested in the other types of training offered, yet after I did them in the trial, they too where in tune with what I desired to be, a physically fit, confident and prepared person. I wanted to find a gym to assist me at becoming the best I could be, all around, to handle any situation needed, a gym that helped level my life out through the appropriate amount of physical activity. What I have obtained is that and so much more. I spent eight years as a U.S. Marine and went through various types of training and tested all kinds of programs and supplements. Yet, now at Vanguard and the age of 28, I’m on the path to being in the best shape of my life, physically and mentally. Not only does the gym offer a chance to excel everyday, a convenient location, proper facilities, excellent instructors and great classes, the staff and other members are all there to support me in achieving success, just as you are there for them. It’s a team effort there.
